http://www.guitarjapan.com/edwards/spec ... 30ltc.html

[img:h7nxtd49]http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m156 ... aSA500.jpg[/img:h7nxtd49]

[img:d5m0fl6x]http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i65/e ... C01704.jpg[/img:d5m0fl6x]

[quote:vz2342an]Hi Matt and Joan, I saw the reviews of this guitar you each posted on Harmony Central last year. I'm very interested in the model, and wonder if you'd be kind enough to let me know what you think of it now? Any info will be much appreciated. Thanks!
A little background on me, so you know where I'm coming from: I've been playing music since I was 10 (clarinet, piano) and learned guitar as a teen. I've always played Fenders, and currently gig with a '69 Tele Thinline reissue and a frankensteined strat-style guitar (with whammy bar, and three ancient high-output stacked humbucking single-coils) that started life as a Hondo II. I've been banging away on it since about 1982.
The stratenstein kicks ass but the clean sounds are bland compared to a real Strat... the TVL looks beautiful and the versatility of the electronics appeals to me in a big way. I replaced the strat's 5-pos switch with three micro-toggle switches years ago, so since then I've been spoiled - I've been able to get all seven pickup combos on the strat at will, but not with separate volume controls, which is a mod I've considered but never got around to making happen - and the TVL has it standard. Nice!
I play mostly weddings and dance parties now, and play a variety of styles - mostly rock, R&B and Motown, country, classic rock, even getting as heavy as Guns'n'Roses (for example). We also play jazz and swing. I typically run my amp clean, and use pedals for color. So, good clean tones ranging from rich-n-sweet to bright-n-punchy are important.
How well does it stay in tune when you work the Bigsby? I usually do *not* hit the whammy too hard - usually for vibrato, not dive-bombing. Does the TVL yield any of those glassy, pinging in-between sounds (neck-middle, bridge-middle) of the strat, or are the P90s just too thick to replicate that delicate tone? How to do assess the playability, sounds, quality, customer service, etc. now that you've had the guitar for a year or so?
Apologies for jumping into your inbox out of nowhere like this, but I figured if you were generous enough to post your email addresses on the site, you wouldn't mind a query from an interested fellow guitarist like myself. Thanks in advance for any info you're willing to share.
Thanks, and Best Wishes,

[quote:vz2342an]
Hi there, there's no problem telling you how I feel about the guitar. I hope my poor english is enough for you to understand me ;-) . The SA503 is an odd guitar, and so it's charachteristics, I do not know anyone who has another (I usually post at a spanish forum called www.guitarramania.com, and I am the only who has it among 10K users). When I first saw it in the store I thought "what an ugly guitar", but my thoughts changed when I plugged it and saw the possibilities of this one. Think about a "strat on steroids", whithout the intrinsec strat "problems" : I'm no strat guitarist, I can't stand the thin sound coming from a single pickup, nor the bolt on neck and the infamous vibrato. So for me this guitar gives all a strat would do in terms of clean-sounding bell-like (specially the middle pick) but with an extra bite coming from the p90's.
In the overdriven lands, this one reveals as a surprising powerful axe, I honestly was not aware of this before I plugged to mi ex-jcm600 and cranked the volume. No problems with feedback, and the sound is superb, not so dark a les paul would be but with his own voice. Probably it resembles a little with a gretsch-type one, high on mids, not many lows (enoguh for me, indeed).
Let me advice you that the swich combination is a little confusing at first sight, but I got used in a week or so.
I also do not work the bigsby very hard, only a slight vibrato effect here and there, so it stays in tune greatly for me.
In my oppinnion, it's a very versatile guitar, not for death metal , but suitable for a lot of styles.
I had not any problem with dealers and customer service, the guitar seems pretty well built and the shop where I bought it is a yamaha dealer and personal friend, I blindly trust yamaha since I have an RBX774 bass and an AEX1500 guitar also and I never had any problem with them.
If you want more info or a sound clip, feel free to email-me

Hola Joan, your English is quite good, much better than my French or Russian. :-) Muchas gracias for responding to my question, I thank you for taking time to help me. Matt Taylor also responded to my email, and he was very enthusiastic about the guitar.
I admit I have loved Strat sounds ever since I heard Dire Straits :-) but the bridge pickup can be too thin, even on mine which has high-output stacked humbucking single-coils. The Bill Lawrence Blade that I bought in 1979 is in the neck position, and it's one of the best-sounding pickups I've heard on any guitar, but overall my strat does not make me happy anymore. (I find I prefer my Tele these days - a surprise even to me.) Maybe vintage pickups would help, but the neck is too wide, the bridge saddles need replacing....
Or maybe it's time - after 26 years with the strat - to change my "voice". The TVL also has a unique look. I am tall; a big-bodied guitar would suit me.
I have been to Switzerland, Italy, Lichtenstein, Austria, Germany, Netherlands, England and Scotland - but never to Spain, I am sad to say. I understand it is a very beautiful country in many ways. When I was in college, I had a girlfriend from a small college-town in northern New York state - a bright, beautiful girl named Anna with soulful dark eyes and lustrous dark hair. She has lived most of her adult life in Madrid, where she now lives with her husband and daughter. Sigh. So Spain must be a very fine place to be. :-)
If you have a sound clip available, I'd love to hear it! Please don't go to any great trouble to create or send, though. It's very useful to know you still like the guitar after having owned it for some time.
Thank you again for taking time to share your thoughts about this guitar.
